Department of Arabic Language Teaching was founded in 1984. Ali Şakir Ergin, Ziyad Akkoyunlu, Azmi Yüksel and Abdulvahap Öztürk are our professors who contributed to the foundation of our department. Other professors who lectured and made a great effort for their students in our department for many years, but who are not with us now, are: Muzaffer Özcan, İsmail Korkmaz, Aytekin Özgür, Emrullah İşler, Emire Asel, Nurettin Ceviz, and Cihaner Akçay. We will always remember all our lecturers with love and respect.
The undergraduate academic period is eight-semester. However, before starting the undergraduate programme, it is obligatory for our students to successfully complete a two-semester Arabic preparatory class. Students who successfully complete the Arabic preparatory class or pass the Arabic Proficiency Exam are entitled to enroll in the undergraduate programme.
The Department of Arabic Language Teaching consists of 4 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 4 research assistants and 6 lecturers who are competent in their fields. You can find the web pages of the instructors from the Academic Staff menu.
Approximately 70 students are admitted to the undergraduate programme of our department every year.
Our department aims to teach our teacher candidates how to teach Arabic language and literature to students in the light of modern methods, rather than aiming only to teach Arabic. We have shouldered this divine mission for many years as the only Arabic Language Teaching department in our country. In addition, we share our experience which was gained over the course of many years through training future teachers and lecturers for Arabic language and literature departments in Turkey.
Prominent features of our department represent that our teacher candidates take several major area courses, vocational courses, general culture and skill courses within 10 semesters including 2 semesters of preparatory class (5-year curriculum). The most prominent strengths of our Department are:
Experienced teaching staff,
Updated teaching material,
The tradition and experience of the teacher training process have a very long history,
The teaching and assistant staff consist of individuals who are experienced and highly successful in research activities,
Having sufficient teaching staff to teach all major area courses.
Our department has 3 classrooms equipped with technological equipment such as computers, speakers and projections. There is also a small library in one of the classrooms with Arabic novels, textbooks, scientific works and periodicals.
In addition to becoming Arabic teachers and lecturers, our graduates have the opportunity to work as translators in all universities or ministries such as the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Transport, and in units such as the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the General Directorate of Foundations, and the General Directorate of State Archives.
